The Capertee Valley, northwest of Lithgow, is a large valley in New South Wales, Australia. It is 1km wider than the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA, but is not quite as deep or long. But it's not as spectacular, and, because of Australia's antiquity, not as deep. It's about 135 kilometres north-west of Sydney, between Lithgow and Mudgee. Yet its rock formations are sensational, its lookouts and bushwalks afford sprawling views, and it is home to a wide array of birdlife and wildlife. One of the most prominent features of the valley is Pantony's Crown, a sandstone butte that is now part of the Gardens of Stone National Park. Parts of the valley are also included in the Wollemi National Park, the second-largest national park in New South Wales. The only population centre of any kind is the village of Glen Davis, which includes a camp-site and often serves as a starting-point for bushwalks around the Capertee River and other parts of the Wollemi National Park.
