They did not regard themselves as necessarilya part of the Church in the United States; theyignored the name ^Protestant Episcopal,. At the end of two years those swift changeswhich marked the gold country had swept awayThe First the little band of clergy. Some had Bishops -, removed, some were smitten withthe gold fever, some had died—among whomwas the Eev. Mr. Mines. The vestry of TrinityChurch wrote to friends in the East seeking asuccessor, and among others the suggestion ofa removal to California was made to the Ingraham Kip, rector of St. PauPsChurch, Albany.
