Bars = mm. DISCUSSION In the present study, we have revealed the developmental stages of a bud and their time schedule in Symplegma reptans. The results give new information about the difference between Symplegma and other botryllid and polystyelid budding. Formation of the bud primordium In Botryllus schlosseri the bud primordium first appears as a thickened disc of cells on each side of the parental body of stage 8 (staging by Izzard, 1973).
