Thetown is expanding rapidly, and there can be no doubt that within a few yearsit will rank next to Johannesburg in commercial importance. The Town Council has at present under consideration the initiation ofan up-to-date tramway system, which scheme it is hoped will within a year ortwo be realised. To Johannesburg the train runs through a labyrinth of mines and miningworks, which afford a novel spectacle not to be seen elsewhere. Theeffect produced by the numerous reservoirs and glistening tailings-heaps is not. -^
