Possible Origins of the Crocodile Dundee legend? - The legendary but misnamed crocodile hunter, Matthew 'Alligator' Walker -1866-1931- (and wife Daisy) originally from Whitby, Yorkshire, UK. A pioneer who settled in Queensland Australia and single-handedly cleared the Burrum River, Queensland, area of crocodiles (not alligators as they thought at the time). He also farmed land, grew oranges, kept oyster beds, ran the Golden Fleece pub and worked as a coal train driver.(not all at the same time)
