Control valves are air-operated, designed and manufactured bythe Westinghouse Air Brake Company. Utilizing spare steam from the locomo-tive boiler the booster turns otherwise idletrailing wheels into driving wheels, the starting power of a loco-motive and helping it over steep but 3,500 pounds, the boosteradds 25% to 40% to the draw-bar pull, anincrease equivalent to that which could. THE BOOSTER APPLIED TO THE TRUCK OF .\ LOCOMOTIVE made, and all with gratifying resultsin point of economy. Among the mostrecent is an application and specialtests of a booster-equipped locomotiveon the Temiskaming and NorthernRailway of Canada. Extension of the T. & N.
