8th century Anglo-Saxon cross at St Lawrence’s parish Church Eyam Derbyshire England UK
In the churchyard of St Lawrence’s parish Church Eyam Derbyshire England UK is an Anglo-Saxon cross, one of the best preserved examples in the country, in Mercian style dated to the 8th century, moved there from its original location beside a moorland cart track. Grade I listed and a Scheduled Ancient Monument, it is covered in complex carvings, a mixture of Christian and pagan symbols, and is almost complete, but for a missing section of the shaft.
