Dun Telve Broch stands on a not particularly defensive site on a gravel terrace on the north side of the river. A third of its walling still stands to over high. A scond broch, Dun Troddan, is 500m to the east. They are the finest examples of their class of brochs to survive on the Scottish mainland both in terms of preservation & display of structural features: inner & outer walls tied together by gallery floor/roof stones, stairway entrance, doorway, lintels, gallery voids, corbelling, scarcement, entrance passage on west with door-checks & bar-hole. The site was occupied for a long time with several phases of outbuildings. Mortar from Victorian restoration & safety work is leaching down wall faces. The typical batter - gradual backwards slope in the face of a wall - of the broch wall construction is clearly visible. in terms of preservation & display of structural features: inner & outer walls tied together by gallery floor/roof stones, stairway entrance, doorway, lintels, gallery voids, corbelling, scarcement, entrance passage on W with door-checks & bar-hole.
