From its upper extremity, -whereit opens out upon the surface of the skin, it descends,shaped like a funnel, as far down as the opening of theduct of the sebaceous gland. It then becomes narrowedfor a short distance, but broadens again near the papillato receive the hair bulb. The hair shaft varies considerably in shape, being insome cases round, in others mucli tlattened, or againan,gular. On cross section the hairs are either round, or oval, ortriangular, or square, liaving convex or concave sides. sun.
