Haferwurzel oder Bocksbart, Ger. Sclsfjis, Fr. Oslra Vegetal, 6 Barba Cabruna, Sp. A fine vegetable, used and served as Carrots ; or, after being boiled, made into cakes and tried like oysters, which they resemble in flavor. Cultivate the same as Carrots and Parsnips; it ia hardy, can remain in the ground all winter for early spring use, but should be taken up before it starts growing; take up a supply to use during the winter. Succeeds best in a light, well-enriched, mellow soil. Sow early in the spring in drills 15 inches apart, 1 inch dee]), and thin out to 6 inches apart in the rows. Long White.
