The Chicago House of Correction was established and is maintained bythe City of Chicago in accordance with the provisions of an act of the StateLegislature, approved and in force July 1st, 1871. The Institution, at thepresent time, covers sixty (60) acres of ground, not including the Farm Col-ony of three hundred seventy-one (371) acres.
