Radiosonde launch preparations. Meteorologist filling a weather balloon (centre) with hydrogen (hence the no smoking sign, visor and gloves). It will be used to launch a radiosonde, a unit designed to measure and transmit meteorological data. The object at lower centre is designed to stabilise the balloon when it it launched with the radiosonde attached. This radiosonde is being used to gather data for the Met Office, the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. Photographed in Crawley, UK, circa 1966.
