View NNE of the harled & painted stonework, upper windows & pantile roof of the detached N range of Culross Palace, Fife, Scotland, UK, with domestic accommodation over a stable, byre & hayloft. The Palace complex - buildings standing on the N & W of an enclosure with a smaller courtyard to the NW - was built 1597-1611 by industrialist Sir George Bruce who developed a technique for mining coal under the Firth of Forth. Bruce exported 100 tons of coal a week to Hamburg & his buildings show the influence of Flemish/European architectural styles. The Palace has been conserved & restored by the National Trust for Scotland.
