Lady of the Order of the Scarf.
Lady of the Order of the Scarf. It was established by Jean I, King of Castile, in 1390 to immortalize the role of the women of Placentia who helped lift the siege of their town by the English. It was later united with the Order of the Sash (Ordre de la Bande). The woman wears the order's distinctive gold scarf over her robes. Handcolored copperplate engraving of a knight from a religious military order from Robert von Spalart's "Historical Picture of the Costumes of the Principal People of Antiquity and of the Middle Ages" (1796).
