These ruins includeremains of a Palace of Hadrian, swallowed up in the later colossalbuildings of Severus. Few compositions can be finer than thoseformed by the lofty masses of stately brick arcading, standing outagainst the delicate blue and pink shadows of the distant Cam-pagna.
