Marius discovered in the Marshes. From "The Comic History of Rome" by Gilbert à Beckett. Illustrated by John Leech published in 1864.


After some devious tactics the aged Marius was appointed commander of a military campaign originally give to Sulla. As a result Sulla headed back to Rome to regain control. Marius escaped to the Italian countryside, chased by Sulla’s men. This illustration, circa 1852, originally appeared in 'The Comic History of Rome' by Gilbert Abbott Beckett.
