It has lately been foundthat many cases can be cured bygood food and fresh air, especially along the seashore. The first of the sea-shore sanatoria neededto treat the 60,000children in this countrysuffering from bone tu-berculosis was estab-lished in 1906. A felon is an inflam-mation of the perios-teum, caused by bacteriafinding entrance anddeveloping. Rickets occur in children notsufficiently nourishedto permit the deposit. The Joints. — The juncture of two or more bones is ajoiiit^ or articulation. The two general classes of jointsare the movable and immovable. The immovable joints occur between the bones of theskull, and are often called two important kinds of mov-able joints are the ball and socketjoint, like that at the shoulder andhip, and the hinge joint., as seen atthe knee and elbow. In the movable joints the adja-cent ends of the bones are coveredwith a thin pad of cartilage, andseveral tough inelastic bands ofwhite fibrous connective tissue,called ligaments., hold the bones inplace, and form about the spacebetween the ends of the bones acapsule. This is lined with a deli-cate membrane, called the synovialmembrane (Fig. 131). It secretesf
