KAPPA ALPHA THE Kappa Alpha Fraternity can justly claim the honor of being the oldestsocial and literary secret Greek letter organization in the United 1823 a secret social society was at Union College, Schenectady, as a result of discord which had arisen between two factions of a militarycompany at that place. The late Rev. John H. Hunter was the father of thisorganization and with him were a of congenial students, holdingmeetings at their respective houses. In 1825 they formally organized them-selves as a secret fraternity, known as Kappa Alpha. For some the m:embers were severely criticised and met with strongopposition. Two years later, however, two other societies sprang into exist-ence—Sigm-a Phi and Delta Phi. Dr. Hunter and his associates, among whom were Prof. Isaac W.
