Scott County is located about the centerand on the western border of the state, withan area of about 1,000 square miles. It ismade up of several wide valleys, runningeast and west, with an intervening broken,hilly country, ranging in altitude from fiOOto 2,700 feet. The greater part of the soilis sandy loam, with red clay subsoil. Thelands in the well known Fourche Lafave,Poteau, Petitjean and Dutch Creek valleysare very fertile, and equally productive.
