Aquatic insects, mainly Chironomidae, were an important food item for bluegills of all sizes (Fig. 7), as reported by other researchers (Gerking 1962, Keast & Webb 1966, and Seaburg & Moyle 1964). Peak use of aquatic in- sects at Lake Sangchris occurred in September and October (Fig. 8). In con- trast, this was a period of low use of aquatic insects by bluegills in two Wisconsin lakes (Seaburg & Moyle 1964) and in Lake Opinicon, Ontario (Keast 1978).
