C12th tomb, supposedly of William Rufus (King William II, 1087-1100), in the choir of Winchester Cathedral, Hampshire, England, UK, looking E through the presbytery to the High Altar & Great Screen. Rufus, son of William the Conqueror, was buried at Winchester after being killed by an arrow under suspicious circumstances while hunting in the New Forest. The altar screen was built 1455-75 but the statues are C19th replacements. St Swithun (left of St Mary left of the cross), Bishop of Winchester 852-62, is depicted holding the bridge that he built over the River Itchen.
