The war between the Ukrainian army and the soldiers of the Donetsk Peoples Republic has cost the lives of 12,000 people and those who have been displaced exceed a million. It escalated in 2014. Despite a ceasefire in place, it is evident that death still occurs from predominantly, sniper, mortar and mines. The construction of trenches either side of no-man’s land, (often only 100mt apart) have ensured a static yet aggressive confrontation. The Minsk ceasefire agreement and constant political turbulence has only made a stalemate and still no conclusion is evident in the near future.
