The narrow, 60m Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, plunging over the cliffs of the former coastline, at Eyjafjoll, Southern Iceland
The River Seljalandsa drops 60m (200 feet) over the cliffs of the former coastline, before continuing to the sea, now some 5 km further south. Sea level was formerly much higher relative to the coast. The waterfall has been formed by isostatic uplift of the land, whereby the river flowing to the former sea level has been raised up by isostatic uplift of the land following the release of billions of tonnes of ice weight at the end of the Pleistocene Ice Age some 10,000 years ago.
