Westmorland, Shap, UK 19th June, 2014. Virgin Train West Coast Line Franchise renewed. Travelling Virgin Pendolino and Voyager Passenger Trains at Shap, Cumbria, UK. Virgin Trains and the Department for Transport have signed a new deal guaranteeing big improvements for both passengers and taxpayers. The new West Coast franchise will run until March 20171 and will see significant improvements for customers with the introduction of free superfast WiFi, more seats and new services.


The company says it will invest £35m and promises thousands more seats, free Wi-Fi and improved parking at Carlisle. It had previously lost out to First Group in the battle for the 13-year franchise but that decision was reversed by the Department for Transport because of errors in the bidding process. West Coast Main Line train contract is extended, the track that can be seen as the backbone of Great Britain is a permanent physical manifestation of the link between Scotland and England. The West Coast Main Line, with its sister railway track, the 393-mile (632 km) East Coast Main Line that links King's Cross, London, and Edinburgh, are two of the busiest passenger and freight routes in the UK.
