The prospectsafter the frost broke np were not reassuring;oomplaints came from all quarters of the heavyloss and damage which had resulted. Some ofthese were ourious, for results were very dif-ferent in the same districts, and the differenceoould hardly be traoed to soil or position. Awarm and dry spring without an exceptionallysharp late frost, furnished the best possible resultfrom the little wood that was spared, and one ofthe features of the season has been the beauty ofthe garden or decorative Roses. Many of theseare not only less hardy of themselves than others,but their long growths are more fully exposedto the weather, Muoh of the injury during thefrost was oaused by the sudden and extremeohanges in temperature.
