Earthworm. Light micrograph of a longitudinal section through the body of a round segmented earthworm (Lumbricus terrestris), in the reproductive region. The image shows segments 11-15 (left to right). Running along the center of the body is the gut with the oesophagus (in the form of pink rings) and the oesophageal gland (a pink striped circle). The seminal vesicles producing sperm are solid purple circular areas with black circles (11, 13-15). The seminal funnels are deep purple tubes (13), the solid dark purple circle (11) is the spermatheca. Magnification: x14 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
