The temple built between 550 & 450 BC is dedicated to Poseidon & Hera mother of gods, is older than the Parthenon. Founded in 600BC it became Roman in 243 BC as its harbours silted up and it became victim to malaria. It was rediscovered in 1750 when a coach road was being built and the tops of fluted coumns showed through.
