Four-and-twenty peers, however, signed a protestagainst the address of approval which followed ; and inheading the list of signatories Chesterfield appended tothat document a statement of the reasons which had in-fluenced him. Further, he appealed from the House tothe country at large in what is the best known of hismany political writings, a pamphlet bearing the title ofThe Case of the Ha?wver Forces.
