Caption: Ser'xu, Sichuan, China - Aug 2002. Khampa horsemen resting aftyer participating in the opening ceremony of the Ser'xu Horseracing Festival in the former Tibetan Kingdom of Kham. The festival is one remaining vestige from the great clan gatherings, annual meetings where the nomadic tribes would gather to settle disputes over land, leadership and who had the fastest horse. Held once every three years, the Ser'xu festival is the biggest and most prestigous in Eastern Tibet.
