Mr. Plumb has been an independent repub-lican in politics, and conse(|uently not in theline of political promotion. But in 1872 he waselected to the state senate as an indepemlentby a coalition of democrats and greenbackersand served for four years. He held the olTice ofjiresident jiro teni of the senate, and was one ofa group of three who held the balance of ]iower,which th(\\ used to elect Judge David Davisinstead of (Jen. John A. Logan to tlie FnitedStates Senate. He served as ]irivafe secretary to his Halph Plumb, during the civil war, laterstudied law and was admitted to the bar inAlbany. X. Y. in 18()7.
