Full-sized replica of Michelangelo's David. This replica was placed here in 1910, in the position of the original sculpture in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy. In 1873 the original sculpture had been moved into the Accademia Gallery in Florence. Sculpted by the Italian Renaissance artist Michelangelo, David is one of the world's most celebrated works of art. It depicts the Biblical David (later King of Israel) at the moment of his battle with Goliath. The original statue, which is over 5 metres in height, was sculpted from 1501 to 1504.
