In a feeling of perfectsecurity all gave themselves to sleep one August night, little dreamingMiat the neighboring wood concealed the dreaded foe. At daybreak,after prayers, Rouville gave the signal of attack, and they rushed intothe village, slaying all before them. Few escaped the first fire andcharge.
