This 19th century agricultural scene shows a portable steam engine on the left which powers a double blast finishing machine in the centre. To the right is a straw elevator. The thrashing or finishing machine takes the harvested wheat and extracts the grain. These were all manufactured by Ransomes Sims and Head of Ipswich circa were one of the leading manufacturers of steam and threshing machines. Such machinery would be hired by farmers to do the job and their visit would be a major event. This was the start of a revolution in agriculture which lead to modern industrialised farming.
