Ogmore Castle Mid Glamorgan South Wales

The first wooden fortification was built in the end of the 11th century to guard a crossing on the River Ogmore. By the middle of the 12th century a three storey keep was built and later a stone curtain wall was added. Part of the keep is still 40 foot high. Substantial remains of a Norman stone-built castle, raised by the de Londres family. The initial earthwork castle was established by William de Londres, soon after 1100. OS map 170: SS 882769
