North America Nebula

Clusters of young stars (about one million years old) are scattered throughout this infrared image of the North America nebula, captured by NASA's Spritzer Space Telescope. (In visible light, the nebula bears a strong resemblance to the North American continent.) The image, from February of 2011, contains data from both an infrared array camera and a multi-band imaging photometer. Light with a wavelength of microns has been color-coded blue; light is blue-green; and light are green; and 24-micron light is red.
