The White Horse at Uffington on the Berkshire downs. This stylised white horse can be best seen from the air to appreciate the size of it. It lies by the side of the Ridgeway, an ancient roadway leading to the temple at Avebury in Wiltshire and a major trade route used up to the nineteenth century. The small hill, Dragon Hill, in the foreground has acquired legends of being where St. George defeated the dragon, one of several sites that have been so attributed, it must be said.
