A RAF Chinook Helicopter transports eight 1 ton bags of sand to the breech of the river Douglas near Croston in West Lancashire. The river had broken its banks following heavy rain fall. This picture was taken from the towpath of the nearby Rufford Branch of the Leeds and Liverpool canal on the 31st December 2015 with pilot avoiding the overhead power lines with the west Pennine hills beyond in the background. Meanwhile there are powerful pumps in use removing water from the flooded farmland.
