Friendsacademy, located between Morgan and Elm streets, westof County, is a sightly building of brick with a tower. This build-ing was dedicated in 1857, but was subsequently enlarged and remod-elled. It may be of interest and not generally knov, that the oldschool house erected by William Rotch in 1810 was sawn in two andforms two dwelling houses, which are located on Elm street, west ofthe present school house. The old portico is an outbuilding on thepremises of one. There are unusually good facilities, the visitors were told, forpolice and fire protection.
