Portrait engraving circa 1816 of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769 - 1821). It depicts Napoleon on the gangway of HMS Bellerophon after reaching Plymouth Sound in August 1815 while on his way to exile and imprisonment on the island of Saint Helena. Bonaparte was Emperor of the French as Napoleon I and a key military and political leader whose actions shaped European politics in the early 19th century.
