Granite well house in a sunken garden with wild garlic and standing stones at St Keyne, Cornwall. Tradition, described by Carew in 1602, that St Keyne, daughter of King Brychan c AD600, put a spell on the sacred spring such that the first of a newly married couple to drink the waters would gain the mastery in the marriage. One bride took a bottle of well water to church on her wedding day and drank from it as she left the church. Beside the well St Keyne planted a tree root which grew into four sacred trees: oak, ash, elm & willow. Three of these fell in 1703 during a storm, their replacements failed to thrive.
