Nanocomposite polymer research. Close-up of a long-lasting, high-capacity nanocomposite polymer materila (nano-composite arsenic sorbent, N-CAS) engineered to remove arsenic from water rendering it safe to drink. This is an example of nanotechnology developed at Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho, USA. It is up to seven times more effective than the best materials available. N-CAS can treat 350-400,000 gallons of water, is affordable, and extremely efficient. Photographed on 31 July 2007.
