Greenawalt, on the 20th of January,1817, of the half lot adjoining on the west, beingthirty-three feet on Cumberland Street, and one hun-dred and ninety-eight feet in depth to an alley, forthe sum of twelve hundred dollars. In 1816 the county commissioners contracted withStephen Hills, the architect of the capitol at Harris-burg, to erect a court-house, in which year they paidhim fourteen hundred dollars on account towards thebuilding. The next year they paid him thirteenthousand six hundred dollars, and in 1815 the furthersum of six thousand four hundred and fifteen dollarsand eighty-seven cents, in which year it was completedat the total cost of twenty-one thousand four hundredand fifteen dollars and eighty-seven cents. It is a sub-stantial brick structure, and although it has beenseveral times repaired and remodeled, its architec-ture is not to be admired. Nevertheless, its officesare very commodious and well arranged, while theacoustic properties of the court-room are not equaled. I ^ -»»„«»*
