The Grave Bridge, bridge 11, was captured intact by the 82nd Airborne Division on 17th September 1944, a major objective at the start of Operation Market Garden. The bridge is named the John S. Thompsonbrug after the American Lieutenant who led the first paratroopers in the assault on the bridge.
