Through his public addresses be-fore educational associations, and through his manage-ment of the pedagogical department of the ChautauquaUniversity, he has exerted a strong influence upon theteachers of the country. In 1S56 Mr. Dickinson wasmarried to Arexina G. Parsons, of North Yarmouth, was a graduate of Bradford Female Seminary, and asuccessful teacher. She died in 1892. THE celebrated reformer and Universalist divine,Alonzo Ames Miner, son of Benajah Ames andAmanda (Carey) Miner, was born Aug. 17, 1814, inLempster, N. H. He is the grandson of Cliarles Miner,a Revolutionary soldier, and descendant of ThomasMiner, who came to Charlestown in 1630. His Englishancestor, Henry BuUman, in 1356 was honored byEdward HI. with a coat of arms. From his sixteenthto his twentieth year, Dr. Miner taught in jjublic was associatedwith James Garvin in1834-35 in the jointconduct of the Cav-endish (Vt.) Acad-emy, and from 1835to 1839 was at thehead of the Unity(N. H.) Scientificand Military Acad-emy. In 1838 hereceived the fellow-ship of the Universa-list church, and wasordained to its min-istry in 1839. Aftera three years pastor-ate in M e t h u e n,Mass., and six yearsin Lowell, he becamethe
