Islamic State (ISIS, IS or ISIL)
Islamic State (ISIS or ISIL) is an unrecognized state and a Sunni jihadist group active in Iraq and Syria in the Middle East. In its self-proclaimed status as a caliphate, it claims religious authority over all Muslims worldwide. Al-Qaeda is a global militant Islamist organization founded by Osama bin Laden and several other militants. The inscription is the Islamic creed, or shahada.
