A Revolutionary Period sabre, circa 1790/1800. Broad, slightly curved blade à la Montmorency, blued and gilded. An allegorical figure of "Liberté" is displayed on the obverse side, above the mottos, "Vivre libre ou mourir" (Live free or die) and "Pour le salut de ma patrie" (For the salvation of my country). On the reverse side, there is the allegorical figure of "La Nation" along with a lion and a cock between scrolls inscribed, "La vigilance et la force" (Vigilence and strength) and "Fonut succomber chaque atroce" (Force each atrocity to give way).
