William Duane Jenkins, was bornin 1822, in Butler County, Ohio, and his mother,.Martha (Freeman) Jenkins, was a native ofNew York. The family is of Welsh descent,the paternal grandfather having emigratedfrom Wales, and settled in Virginia in completing his primary mental trainingin the public schools of his neighborhood, thesubject of this sketch jjursued a course of studyin Lenox College at Hopkinton. Dr. Jenkins began the practiceof his profession in Bushnell, 111., where heremained five years. In 1900 he moved to Ma-comb, and in a comparatively brief period hasacquired a large practice. He holds the posi-tion of assistant surgeon in St. Francis Hos-pital, and is President of the local board ofpensions. His standing in the meidical fra-ternity of McDonough County is high, and heenjoys to an unusual degree the confidence andesteem of his patrons. On October 28, 1894, Dr. Jenkins was unitedin marriage with Joanna Whitenack, who wasborn in Clinton. Mo., in 1872, and attended col-lege at Hushnell, 111. Four children have re-sulted from this union, namely: Gertrude,William Duane, and two who died in politics. Dr. Jenkins gives his sui)port tothe Republican party. Fraternally, he isindenfified with the Macomb Lod.
