Harvard University offers special privileges, without cost, to NewtonSeniors, of approved standing on recommendation of the Newton Faculty. On a certain midnight eachyear, the Freshmen have dragged an oldcannon to the Wesleyan campus in theface of Sophomore opposition. If theformer succeeded in keeping the cannonthere, they were allowed to fire it. Inrecent years, the increasing number ofstudents has made the struggle aroundthe cannon a dangerous sport. The faculty of Bowdoin College havetaken a stand for preparedness. Theyhave suggested that credit should be giventoward the degree for studies inMilitary Science; also that students shouldbe encouraged to attend summer militarycamps.
