The Kuahuqiao Culture, between 7,000 and 8,000 years ago from now, was discovered during the 1990s in Kuahuqiao, Hangzhou. It is another important prehistoric site on the southern shore of the Qiantang River. Large quantities of earthenwares, bone and wooden objects, stone tools and traces of cultivated rice have been found as well as a well-preserved canoe, revealing rather mature ship-making and sailing techniques. The pottery, although still produced in the primitive coiling method, were modified with the slow wheels, indicating great improvements in pottery making techniques. (According to Zhejiang Museum)
