Tremont Street. The library of the society containsabout eight thousand volumes, with maps, charts, andfour hundred and fifty volumes of manuscripts. Amongthe treasures are manuscripts of the historian Hub-bard, of the first Governor Winthrop, eleven volumesof Governor Hutchinson, of Governor Jonathan Trum-bull, of Connecticut, twenty-tkree volumes, and the manu-script of Washingtons address to the officers of theAmerican army. There is also a copy of Eliots IndianBible. The portraits of persons, mostly New Englandworthies, adorn the room; two of special value are, Mather and Rev. John Wilson. These roomscontain many relics of the past; among these are Philipssamp pan, an article of Indian antiquity that perhapsmay have been used by Massasoit himself before it be-came the property of his youngest son, the renownedsachem of Pokanoket; and here also is Captain
